A first look at OpenOffice.org 2.0

Techtonic has a short review of the new features added to OpenOffice 2.0 that is now in beta release. Lots of new features here, a few of my favorites being

  • Increased pdf creation functionality such as support for hyperlinks, indexes, forms, and thumbnail images.
  • WordPerfect filters. As a WordPerfect to OpenOffice convert, this means I finally can remove my old version of WordPerfect from my machine.
  • Use of the OASIS OpenDocument format. Great progress in the file format wars.

Much better

It's a significant improvement with Ooo 2.0, especially being able to open WordPerfect files and the new compression features for PDF's. OOo Impress is much better too. I find that the Windows beta version still crashes frequently.
