Assistant Professor, Professional Writing

Assistant Professor of English in Professional Writing
Dept of English & Journalism, Western Illinois University

My department is looking for a tenure-track professor of English in professional writing. This is a nine-month position with three courses a semester. WIU is a comprehensive university of 13K students about three hours from St. Louis and four from Chicago. We have a great writing program, a very collegial department, and lots of new stuff happening in regards to professional writing.

Feel free to post any questions about this position or WIU. Applications may be sent by email to David Boocker (jd-boocker at wiu dot edu).

Questions

Thanks for posting this, Dilger. As you may or may not realize, I am currently on the job market--and this position sounds great. Both my research and my teaching are steeped in technology; I research online writing environments, new media, and so on and then incorporate what I learn in my teaching. I'm constantly experimenting with new techniques and really hope that, wherever I end up, my colleagues and the department will be supportive of my efforts to find new and useful ways to incorporate technology into what we do in rhetoric and composition. So far I've found that many departments who list "technology" somewhere in their job posting really want a generalist who isn't afraid of tech, not really a computers & writing type who can't work without it. :-)

Do you think WIU would be particularly interested in a scholar with my interests and qualifications? If so, I'll happily send out my package. Any department that advertises on Kairosnews seems like an ideal place to work!

Please send along your credentials. There's certainly room for working with technology here.
