Blackboard to partner with Sakai

This from HigherEd.com:

Blackboard, the dominant player in course management software, has the ability to inspire devotion and, for the more fervid open-source adherents, not a little contempt. quote from Blackboard

I love this quote from a Blackboard engineer:

Imagine a world where students go to a single URL and connect to their course regardless of which course management system it is hosted on.

I believe we all remember that only a few months ago, Blackboard was imagining their patent would shut out all competitors so that the only options would have been WebCT or Blackboard in this wonderful world. LOL

Funny also how the early net

Funny also how the early net was dominated by such services at universities. Remember Gopher and Archie? That should be enough to show folks that these fenced-in properties can never compete with the freedom of the net (as in professors having their own websites/cms of choice).

imagine all the people

or students, or colleges and universities, not getting hosed for cms they don't need to pay for. Yeah, the portal/single log-in idea is nice. We just might get something like that as soon as schools stop throwing money at vendors and start hiring capable tech people who can help faculty implement long-term solutions that don't rely on ripping people off. Did I just write that? I've been watching too much House.
