Well...I guess this is probably just another slick manuever designed to win the man a few more votes, but I'll give him credit for being willing to stand up to Bill Gates and, by extension, most major software companies.
Here are a few high points of the interview:
Q: "Lately, you have been characterizing Kerry as a 'tax and spender,' while he insists that you only represent big business interests. Can you comment on this issue?"
Bush: "Certainly. Well, it just isn't true. I mean, he's into heavy taxing, and he's into heavy spending, but that part about me is just a lie. For instance, my home computer is running a version of Linux, and I've been talking to congress to invest some of the state's money in the open software movement. What Microsoft is doing just isn't right. Bill Gates has more money than the entire Bush dynasty. I'm fighting to keep the internet a site of free culture. I'm bloggeling. That doesn't sound like big business interests to me. I've asked Lawrence Lessig to be on my cabinet next term, but he's apparently so interpellated by the radical ideology of the left that he can't see the reality of the situation."
Q: "The infamous footage of Howard Dean's emotional moment--it is suggested that this repeated footage is almost solely responsible for the failure of his campaign. Do you?"
Bush: "The problem with Dean is that he wasn't able to identify with an important part of American culture, and that's Christianity. If he had framed this as a moment of religious ecstasy instead of an emotion, chances are, I'd be facing Howard Dean instead of Mr. Kerry in November. By the way, I have that 'Yeaaggh' set as my ringtone."
Q: "What are your thoughts on the increasing costs of higher education and the decreasing state budgets allocated to colleges and universities? What is your stance on the increasing incursion of private interests at public universities?"
Bush: "Well, I think that's got to stop. When I think about my alma mater, I don't think McDonalds, or Barnes and Noble. The university is a sacred place whose intellectual sanctity we must protect; it is the only guaranteed place where you can engage in critical discourse concerning America, and that's what makes democracy work. If there'd been, say, a Hooters at Yale in 68, I doubt I could have graduated."
Q: "Kerry was caught on microphone referring to your party as 'crooks.' Do you--"
Bush: "Let me interrupt you there. Is the tape off? Stop the tape. Okay, look. Here's the straight story. Let's cut that whole part out, okay? There'll be a reward in this. Okay. Turn the tape back on."

other open source advocates
I also heard that Joe Moxley embraced open source today as well (LOL)
Charlie Lowe's Love of Microsoft
Ol' JOe...It's kinda ironic. I mean, the same day that you and I finally give up on this "open source" nonsense and embrace Microsoft totally, he installs Linux and Staroffice.
Are you really serious about replacing the Kairosnews server with Microsoft Server?
upgrading to Microsoft server
I actually wanted to wait for a couple of years until Longhorn and the server that comes out then so that we can enable DRM controls on all Kairosnews content. For example, it would be nice to prevent everyone from printing out Kairosnews content or copying and pasting any of the text out of the browser window.
