Can Linux replace MS in the university? An experiment

She's a woman on a mission and she's blogging about it. A woman at an unnamed "laptop university" has decided to take the laptop on loan from the university and install linux. Her mission for the year to see if Linux can really do everything that Microsoft products can without getting herself in trouble.

"Background My college is a laptop university meaning that each and ever student gets a laptop to use for the school year. For the time they have this laptop it is theirs to use to further their education. The computers are provided to the students with Windows XP, Office XP, Visual Studio.NET, and other software they may need for classes. The on campus help desk supports the laptops. I am employed there. Because of the restrictions put in place by the Computer Center, I format my laptop as soon as possible after I receive it. This January, I decided to put SUSE 8.1 on my laptop as it had been a Christmas present. After some thought I realized that I could function in almost all my classes with Linux. This is the record of that experiment."
