Choosing the weblog best for you
- Each weblog software product has it own unique features and some are easier to use than others. Some of the easy-to-use weblogs limit the amount of control a user has over the functionality and look-and-feel. You should choose weblog software based upon your own needs and technical skills.
Weblogs such as Blogger are very easy to set up and start using, but are not as customizable or feature rich as others. Some of the fee-for-use weblog products, such as TypePad, offer different levels of functionality and options based upon a monthly fee structure.
Even so, the basic features of a weblog - the ability to place content on the Web - is available to you even in the simpliest weblogs. If you are unfamiliar with HTML and Cascading Style Sheets, these may be a great choice for you to get your weblog up and running quickly.
Weblog software with a richer feature set is often installed directly on a Web server by the user. This user will be experienced with HTML, CSS, and often the programming language used to develop the weblog software, typically PHP or Perl. These weblog products include MoveableType, Nucleus, and others.
