"ETS Technologies, a subsidiary of a national testing company, was hired to develop and use automated scoring models for open-ended essay questions and multiple-choice questions, and provide online score reporting. Company President Richard Swartz said an automated scoring "engine" can score essay and open-ended questions based on analyzing the scoring of expert readers, who are educators."
