Creative Commons EDU license

The Creative Commons is investigating the idea of a license explicitly for education. The project lead is David Wiley, the learning object pioneer from Utah State, and the matter is currently under discussion on a CC listserv.

There is some concern over whether an EDU license would in fact be more restrictive than current CC licenses, and thus counterproductive. I have opined that more content creators in higher ed would be inclined to share their work under such a license, and I was wondering what the Kairos community thought.

Other proposed licenses

The other proposed licenses in the link that Zach provided are really interesting too; I hope the one for developing countries gets a lot of support.

the licenses

on the one hand, i can see how these licenses might make some material more available for the specified instances. on the other hand, i'm more concerned that those who might use a more expansive license, given these other options, will restrict the use. in the long run, i think we might be better off without them.
