David Gelernter's life streams

Sun's main Java site, java.sun.com, has an interview with David Gelernter, in which he touts what he calls the information beam, one flowing stream of information and promotes a new product called Scopeware.

The gist of the interview is that the desktop will soon be irrelevant and users will be able to get information from their beam anywhere, and place information in the past, present or future, where it will flow to them at times of their choosing. The days of PCs, files and folders are over, according to Gelernter. Information beams will eventually form the basis of web sites. All of this is supposed to enhance efficiency and human well being.

Has anyone used Gelernter's software? Does anyone have an intuitive grasp of what he is talking about? Does anyone recommend trying it out? Is it worth the trouble?
