F.C.C. Clears Internet Access by Power Lines

Yesterday's article from The New York Times not only notes that the FCC has given the go ahead for electric companies to begin providing broadband service, but "also ruled that the regional Bell companies do not have to give competitors access to fiber optic lines that reach into consumers' home - a decision that prompted two of the Bells, SBC Communications and BellSouth, to announce that they would move quickly to build new fiber optic networks in residential neighborhoods." Fiber optic lines will make the phone companies more competitive with cable broadband. And given the entrance of the electric companies into the market as ISP's, this should create enough alternatives to keep the market competitively innovative with decent prices for consumers.
