Free Comic Book Day

Want a free comic book? Well, today's the day to get one. Check out this site, referred by Slashdot, which describes the free comic book promotion being put on by several devoted comic book creators.

What worries about this promotion is that, reading between the lines, I gather that the genre isn't doing so well these days. I suppose with the rise of the Internet, the same kids that would normally have bought the books are now watching clips or some such online. Is there a market for comic books on the internet? I found this blog site about the comic book culture, but not many e-comics except this this one. Weirdness..

Re: Free Comic Book Day

Are any other kairosnews people into comic books? I haven't bought any in a long time, but I still have my old collection (about 500 + books). I was an avid fan of Spidey, Ironman, and Batman. :-)

I used to be, up until college. Then I did something really stupid (don't worry, you'll agree matt):

Among other things, I had 18 out of the first 20 new Xmen. Gave them away to a friend who collects. Thinking right now how I could buy a laptop with those :(

Don't feel so bad. Actually, the comic collector market is really sagging these days. Apparently the only thing anyone is willing to pay for are the anime-style adult comics...:-(

Believe me when I tell you--it's difficult to find anyone willing to pay you what a comic is worth. Most people just want to pick a few books from your collection and give you 25% or so...

I finally decided that my comic collection was more valuable to me than it would be to anyone else.
