Gene Mutations Linked to Language Development

The Washington Post reports that approximately 200,000 years ago a mutant gene swept the human population over a period of between 10,000 to 20,000 years, giving humanity the power of speech. Read more about it at Nature.

Does anyone know how this fits in with the X-Files scheme of when the aliens came to Earth??? :)

I was thinking about the big black slab in 2001: A Space Odyssey myself. :-) I love all things space alien.
