According to this article, Blogger has additional issues besides the archive loss mentioned in this previous Kairosnews post. It appears there are several security holes that would allow hackers to alter existing weblogs. I wonder why it took Pyra's being bought by Google for these weaknesses to be found.

Re: Google Closes Blogger Security Holes
I still hate Blogger. Hate it!!!! My archives are still not showing up under "Archives" on my "edit your blog" page. The only way I can see them is if I (on my "edit your blog" page), go to "Posts," and click on "View last 100 posts." I know they're not gone, at least, but it's so annoying that they don't even show up under "Archives."
And look at my *public* Archives page: cyborgwoman archives. I mean, what is that?!?!
As soon as I have $15-20, I'm going to snap up a domain name. Elijah Wright has graciously offered to host my blog (Thanks Elijah!), and I'm still looking into Greymatter and Movable Type.
Re: Google Closes Blogger Security Holes
;) Very clever of you, making your archives page a postmodern demonstration of the commodification of the blog post as a stable yet unrecoverable database entry.
For instance, "<$BlogItemBody$>-Value," draws attention to the embodied nature of intellectual work, from which value gets subtracted in the capitalist system as such work is made accessible to the public without subscription.
Also, "<$BlogItemAuthorNickname$>," suggests the absence of the author in such writing, who gets replaced by the author function, here archived as the "AuthorNickname" and situated, as always, within the "$" system of celebrity authorship.
Again, thanks for the philosophically disturbing and intellectually inspiring "cyborgwoman archives" page. ;)
Re: Google Closes Blogger Security Holes
Maybe Blogger issues will improve now that Google is reworking their code.
i found the cyborgwoman archives!
for some reason, the archive link you are using is not working. it seems that your theme is broken, not blogger.
visit
archives for January 26
archives for January 19
archives for January 12
and for instance, if you'll look at some of the student sites listed at cyberdash, which cover a wide range of the blogger supplied themes, you'll see that some of them don't use the "archives" link you are trying to use. looks like you'll need to take apart a few themes to figure out how to make it work right. probably good to google some blogger theme-building tutorials, too.
good luck!
Re: i found the cyborgwoman archives!
Blogger Unofficial FAQ blog might help.
Re: i found the cyborgwoman archives!
last time i reply to myself today :)
this would seem to be something that would help. look a at the definition of,
<$BlogArchiveFileName$> . . .
why not work around it, rather than trying to fix it? try switching to the javascript that will list the links to your archives instead of using the index archive page, then make sure to go through and edit your old posts to update them to the more current theme you are using. if that doesn't work, then plow through all the advice in the comments in the unoffical faq relevant to archives and figure out what to do to fix the archives index page.
Re: i found the cyborgwoman archives!
I don't know javascript...wah.
Re: i found the cyborgwoman archives!
you don't have to know javascript. you just have to cut and paste correctly.
however, that unofficial faq page tells you what to do (read down for the archive template section instructions). but you might follow their directions for the non java script method first and see if you can fix your theme the way it is.
i know it's no fun. i sympathize; pn theme building/modifying is much worse.
Re: Google Closes Blogger Security Holes
Email your IT service at your school. Ask them about cgi access. If it's there, go get MT or Greymatter. Easy downloads and easy installation. You can change permissions with Ftp and both programs come with installation guides. At the bottom of my blog is a link to Greymatter. If yo u have questions, ask away.
Re: Google Closes Blogger Security Holes
Hey, Jeff, I've already done that. Movable type wants you to have MySQL or another database-type thing, and my school server won't support it. I think I might do Greymatter, unless Elijah ends up hosting it, in which case I might be able to use MT.
Re: i found the cyborgwoman archives!
Hey, I looked at cyberdash, but where are the student sites you're talking about? Under Blogs-a-Million, Midnight Bloggers, or Blogs'R'Us?
Re: Google Closes Blogger Security Holes
For GM, all you need to know is where Perl is (and it's probably the same as it is written in the files which come with GM). Then you just need to change permissions which you can do with FTP or shell access (if you have it). GM doesn't use Mysql or php.
Re: i found the cyborgwoman archives!
yes. and most are blogger sites. what you'll see is that there are two ways to setup archives on your main page--one with a link to the index page, and one with direct links to each archive. those two different ways are apparently determined by the commands i mentioned above.
suggestion: setup another blogger account and experiment with exisiting templates to see how it works. keep the experimental site so that you can always experiment with your template changes before implementing them on your production site. that's what i do with kairosnews and my class site.
