Google Keywords Knock Chinese Surfers Offline

Big Brother in action again. Looks like the Chinese government already had a plan for working around Google access for its citizens. New Scientist reports that users of the Chinese Internet who enter sensitive keywords into Google get kicked offline from the government run ISP's (incidentally, according to the text, Internet access is only available from the government).

I wonder if intentionally misspelling something, so that Google suggests the right spelling and then conducts the search, is a workaround for this?

I don't see why not, but I think it should be relatively easy for anyone to get around such a block. I guess we're more concerned with the principal of the thing than any real obstacle to access! :-)

Although, it could be dangerous for Chinese citizens to spend time trying to get around these blocks since the government ISP's could be recording such attempts.
