I checked the guestbook of one of my former students, and I found a whole lot of generic messages that appear to be spam, together with links advertising services. My student's blog is of the "personality" genre, but some guestbook entries complement the "information" on her site. Has anyone else had that problem?

Re: Guestbook Spam?
okay. i'm lost. what is the "guestbook?"
Re: Guestbook Spam?
Signing a guestbook is a way of leaving public comments for web authors who don't have a nifty threaded discussion feature like this one. Some companies host free, ad-supported guestbooks just like Geocities hosts free web pages. People with personal home pages often link to the off-site service with an invitation such as "Sign my guestbook."

Dude - you are totally showing your Internet age!

Guestbooks were all the rage when folks started to first make web pages back in the early '90s (can't believe I'm saying "back in the early '90s")

Nah. I just didn't think about them because I didn't think anyone was using them any more :)
