I've been doing lots of Google searches, but I can't figure out how I would do a bibliographical citation of a blog post in my Works Cited page. I use APA, so would it be something like this?
Vaidhyanathan, S. (2003). Universities, RIAA, and academic freedom. Sivacracy.net: Siva Vaidhyanathan's weblog. Retrieved April 26, 2003, from http://www.nyu.edu/classes/siva /2003_04_23_blogarchive.html#200187673.
Thoughts...? Guess I'll do it this way for now. It makes me actually kind of excited about seeing the next editions of the major style guides, to find out if they'll include ways to cite weblogs.

Re: How do you cite a blog post in your bibliography?
One thing I've done is adopt Janice Walker's work with the Columbia Guide to Online Style. Using her template, it's possible to cite any electronic source in MLA, APA, and Chicago.
Re: How do you cite a blog post in your bibliography?
Anyone seen the new MLA guide yet? I think it's supposed to be out fairly soon now.
Re: How do you cite a blog post in your bibliography?
Okay, so I should probably put not only the date I accessed the blog post, but also the date the material was posted. For example, if I want to cite a post from a blog that uses Pitas, I'd have to put the date, since you can't permalink to posts in Pitas (something I've always hated about that tool).
Re: How do you cite a blog post in your bibliography?
"but also the date the material was posted"
definitely. imagine if a user moved their blog from blogger to drupal by converting their blogs over. the urls would be different, so anyone following your citation might need the date to dig through the new archives.
like my example? :)
Re: How do you cite a blog post in your bibliography?
Yeah, the example is great--look at the comments I posted on Cyberdash!
Re: How do you cite a blog post in your bibliography?
btw: that was a theoretical example. i don't know for sure that there is a conversion tool for blogger to drupal. it is possible, it's just a question of whether anyone has created the tool yet.
Re: How do you cite a blog post in your bibliography?
New edition? I hope you mean the handbook, not the style manual, cause I just bought the latter. Wouldn't ya know it. :)
cbd.
Re: How do you cite a blog post in your bibliography?
The latest edition of APA has basically given up on citing electronic sources in any meaningful way--they now say that if you have reason to believe the electronic source is in print, cite it as if you used the print copy. That can lead to all kinds of problems.... The newest edition of MLA gives more examples than did the last one, but it still introduces silly things like angle brackets (and, hence, confusion), and it still privileges certain kinds of "texts" (by what it omits).
I'm currently working on the 2nd edition of the Columbia Guide to Online Style in which I plan to include examples of what students and researchers are actually USING these days--including how to cite things like blogs. My recommendations are really simple, just providing the necessary information w/o adding any complexity like silly words ("Retrieved from"????) or extraneous punctuation (angle brackets??? WHY???).
So, CGOS - Scientific Style (designed to work WITH APA-style references for print sources, but to replace their suggestions for citing electronic sources):

Thanks Kiwi!
Re: How do you cite a blog post in your bibliography?
I am waiting (im)patiently for the conversion tool. Once that comes out I think that I'm gonna make the switch!
Re: How do you cite a blog post in your bibliography?
It might be possible anyway if you can dump your blogger files to a text file with the right delimeters. Then we could use php admin to load them into a Drupal db via mysql.
