How Long Is Your Digital Trail?

Regina Lynn's article on Wired makes an important point about our digital relationships:

In just the past few years, it's become harder than ever to avoid leaving a digital trail. Gone are the days when you had to make an effort to be on the web. Now, you have to work to stay off it.

While Lynn is focusing mostly on how previous love and dating relationships online still survive as textual ghosts which can be accessed like a photo album at anytime, I think the point is as relevant to all types of relationships. With little effort from us, digital archives of email and discussions on websites can remain behind as legacies creating a historical record of the connections we build with others.
