Well, found out that Netscape conveniently left off the option which is in Mozilla that allows the user to easily diable popup windows (AOL's hand, obviously). But you can still access that feature if you want to do a little easy hacking.
Now, I have not tried these particular hacks yet, but I have modified other preference files in Mozilla. It's not too hard to do. Find your pref.js file in your Mozilla user profile directory (yes, it's listed under Mozilla in a sub-directory of /Windows, or elsewhere, depending on your OS). Make sure Netscape is off, even the quick start icon. Make a backup of pref.js. Edit pref.js with a text editor and insert one of the following (don't insert the expanations after the line of code):
user_pref("capability.policy.default.Window.open","noAccess");
-- will cut off all popup windows
user_pref("dom.disable_open_during_load", true);
-- will cut off popup windows only when a page is loading
user_pref("browser.block.target_new_window", true);
-- will "override popping up new windows on target=anything"
Save prefs.js and restart Netscape 7.0 PR1. You could try each one of these and see which works the best for you.
These preference options and more are available on the Mozilla website.

Try Galeon
Mozilla codebase, minus bloat.
It's the fastest browser I've ever seen.
With Mozilla code, it'll block pop-ups effectively.

cbd.
Re: Try Galeon
I might be with you on that. But I can't decide if I like Gnome or KDE better, and if I stay in KDE I'll stick with Mozilla. Certainly, Konquerer, while a great file manager/browser, does not compete with Mozilla. But if Galeon's where it's at, well.... :)
Re: Try Galeon
I just can't bring myself to "like" galeon. I think it's ugly as sin... They might do well to redesign the button-bars. I agree that it loads extremely quickly, but the visual pain of looking at its buttons (i run in 1600x1200, and they're quite small) overrides my need-for-speed impulses.

Re: Try Galeon
well, it's a moot point for me now anyway. gnome 2.0 got beat up on reviews (from a link in a recent slashdot post). lots of problems: seemingly poor design, few gnome apps are running on it until updated, loss of features.
so, guess i won't be switching to gnome anytime soon (and i like kde 3.0 better than the older gnome version).
