Inspired by Event Wiki

Saw this collection of info for the ALA conference on Weblogs in Higher Ed: Event wiki, and I wondered if it was something we might do for Stanford and in the future for other conferences (CCCC?). Or maybe it belongs on the Computers and Writing Web site rather than here.

something similar

When Dave B. and I setup wpacouncil.org, we had talked about how all conference event information and proposal submissions could be handled through the wpacouncil site for the WPA conference. The goal would be to create a proposal submission module for Drupal that would allow private submissions of abstracts, and if accepted, they would be published to the site (it's possible we might not even need to create a module for this). Rich Rice and I have also talked very briefly about doing something similar with computersandwriting.org for C&W 2005. Drupal also has an ecommerce module that could probably handle registration and payment, so we could achieve everyhing all in one integrated site, rather than having a wiki for one thing, a registration system for another, etc. And it could be the same site for future conferences, as well as having all the other capabilities that you can see here and on the wpacouncil site.

To be honest, I wasn't thinki

To be honest, I wasn't thinking that it needed to be a wiki. I was thinking of how often people ask for restaurants, lodging, attractions and so forth around conference time. If we/WPA/whoever had a resource set up that included and grew that information, it would be good exposure for the site. For the record, it's important to know that I'm all about ideas and then sitting around waiting for someone else to figure out how to make them happen :)

I knew that

was just letting you know what others were already thinking :) Doug Eyman is in charge of computersandwriting.org from the 7C's end and already has a few plans. Perhaps we should get togther a group--you, Eric, Rich, Doug, etc.--at beer-thirty interested in ways to maximize the use of computersandwriting.org (thinking of conferences, for example) and brainstorm some ideas and make plans to implement some of them.

just to concur

Yup. Tengrrl, as usual, has good idea sprout from her bean. Yup, drupal can do the stuff. Yup, getting a gang of folks likewise interested in making computersandwriting.org do all the cool things she can think of is a good idea itself. I'm game. And agreeable. Yup.

more to the party

Got an email from James Inman just awhile ago. He saw the Drupal workshop post and wants to talk about doing next year's WPA conference on wpacouncil.org in the same way we are discussing computersandwriting.org. So perhaps we can coordinate efforts a little toward some kind of developmento of a submissions module.

interest on Drupal

There's a new thread on Drupal where interest is expressed about a conference module. Someone also apparently has something in the works.
