Kairos Position Available: Praxis Section Co-Editor
Kairos: Rhetoric Technology and Pedagogy seeks a new co-editor for the Praxis section. Praxis publishes full-length and short-narrative pieces that focus on intersections between theories about the use of technology in the classroom and the practices in which students and teachers engage – both in the face-to-face classroom and online. The new Praxis co-editor will work with co-editor Alex Reid and the Praxis assistant editors to solicit, review, and edit both full-length webtexts for publication in the Praxis section and short narratives for publication in the PraxisWiki. The new co-editor will be jointly responsible for
- Managing the webtext and short-narrative review and publication process: soliciting texts, responding to author queries, scheduling editorial reviews, composing evaluation and review letters to potential authors, overseeing the copy-editing process, troubleshooting design issues, and shepherding texts to final publication.
- Managing the PraxisWiki: editing initial submissions, monitoring new submissions and changes to existing narratives, creating links and keywords for efficient navigation of the narratives, and selecting narratives to highlight on the PraxisWiki main page.
The position requires the following skills:
- Excellent online communication skills; Kairos staff conduct the majority of their work via email and other online spaces, so the Praxis co-editors must be able to reliably, consistently, and quickly respond to queries.
- A knowledge of basic web design principles and the ability to troubleshoot basic coding.
- Experience with reviewing and responding to texts, and/or editorial or review experience in the field of computers & writing is desirable.
If you have questions about the position please contact Alex Reid at kpraxis@technorhetoric.net.
To apply, submit the following to the Kairos Editors at alleds@technorhetoric.net
- A cover email that briefly explains your interest in this section editor position, your vision for the section, your qualifications for the position, and any online collaborative experiences you have had.
- A 2-page CV that specifies work related to Praxis (e.g., scholarship of teaching and learning, teaching experiences, design experience, and/or editorial experiences) and includes the contact information for two references.
The deadline for applications is August 1, 2009
