Exactly two years ago today, Kairosnews went live with its first post.
Things have certainly changed since then:
- Clancy I think had heard of blogging, but I didn't even know what blogging was when I made that first post. I had patterned my conception of Kairosnews on my experience with Slashdot. We also owe much to Mark Crane for his dedication as a pioneer edublogger. Mark brought us up to speed quickly on the important part that weblogs would play in online discourse.
- As with most online communities, we've had people come and go. But we have had a steadily increasing readership. I think I can speak for all the Kairosnews editors when I say that during the next year, we hope that members of the community will take an even more active role in posting content and expanding the discourse in new and exciting ways.
- Kairosnews now has over 2700 nodes--nodes being forum threads, blog posts, and weblinks--and almost 2600 comments posted to those nodes, all in a searchable, browseable database. I hope that contributors to Kairosnews can feel that the site is a useful resource for rhetoric, technology and pedagogy.
- I've made many changes to the theme for the site and converted it from one open source cms platform to another: PostNuke to Drupal. Tomorrow marks a new change for Kairosnews as I switch from the server I've been running at FSU over to paid hosting at OpenSourceHost. But don't worry. I promise. No banner ads.
- And of course, we've blogged and followed some exciting trends on topics such as blogging, social software, and intellectual property debates.
So happy blogiversary to Kairosnews with many more to follow :)
