Laptops Get Wheels

This is a little on the light side perhaps, but this article from ZDNet News reports that Evolution Robotics has come out with a kit that turns your laptop into a "rolling, seeing robot" capable of performing simple functions that you program as "behavior routines" using a point-and-click interface.

As laptops and PDAs become more abundant, I just thought this was interesting as a look at how these machines might be integrated into other machines in order to complete various tasks. Instead of onboard computers in cars for instance, maybe future cars will have ports for your PDA. You might plug your PDA in at a local restaurant, movie theater, or book store for increased functionality. Perhaps you want to watch the chefs prepare your food, your PDA could connect you to a webcam in the kitchen. Okay, maybe we wouldn't want to see how our food is prepared, but that's no reason not to consider the possibilities.
