I'm not even going to try to link this bit of news on Yahoo! with rhetoric, tech, or pedagogy. I still couldn't pass it up, though--I am, after all, from Louisiana, and it's not often we make the frontpage news of Yahoo!
Anyway, it looks like a legislator over at Jefferson Parish (not to be confused with county, thank you very much) has decided that he's tired of looking at young people in pants that expose the top part of their bum. This includes "intimate apparel," like boxer shorts or thongs. Violators could get up to $500 in fines and 6 months in jail.
So...What I'm wondering is whether or not this legislation could be construed as an attack on the one ethnic group that seems to have shaped part of its identity around "saggy drawers," namely, the hip hop community.
I know that my high school was trying to fight droopy drawers back in the 90s with mandatory belt codes. We also couldn't wear any shirt that exposed our belly if we raised our arms.
Someone from the ACLU asked if the law was going to cover plumbers. :-)

Priceless.
This makes me homesick for Kansas, the state that used to require airlines to cease and desist from serving "liquor by the drink" while in Kansas airspace, thus giving people yet another reason to cheer at the sight of Colorado.
***sigh*** It takes guts to be that pigheadedly individualistic.
I also think Britney better watch out when she visits Baton Rouge.
