In a move that's sure to spare the lives of millions of relieved cows and chickens, a girl working for a vegetarian propaganda website has changed her name to its address--Goveg.com. The activist formerly known as Karin Robertson (maybe her parents' poor spelling spurred the change?) correctly guessed that the namechange would gain plenty of free publicity for the website (or, at least for her.)
What do people think of Ms. GoVeg.Com?
"People are really perplexed," she says. "They say, 'You've got to be joking.'"
Unfortunately, not. As for the adjective "perplexed," I can think of one that's probably closer to the mark.
The question arises: Who among us will change his/her name to kairosnews.org? I'd assume cel4145, but I'm betting he's already headed to the nearest federal building to take on the title of Drupal.org. That leaves Clancy, unless she's now known as Culturecat.net. I'd change mine, but I'm already practically mattbarton.net, and don't think the .net is really worth the trouble. Maybe mattbarton.net can be a nickname.

Edited by blacklily8 to replace link he forgot earlier and to add this note which should have been added earlier but was not!

name change
you know, as i was reading this, i was thinking that it would be an interesting experiment if you did change your name to mattbarton.net. but would that make you "Mr. Net" to your students? :)
What a cool idea.
You needn't use your legal name in the classroom, of course. I'm sure you could continue to use your given name. ;)

"maybe her parents' poor spelling spurred the change?"
I've seen Karen spelled with an "i" plenty of times.

What the...?! I swear I couldn't find a link in the post the first time, and now "a girl working" is linked to that Yahoo! story. Oh well--sorry.

lol
Here's the story: My first blog had the right link, but then I somehow got off the page (before I was finished) and it wiped it clean. I typed it back in forgetting to add the link. You added a link to the goveg site. REalizing my error, I replaced the link.
I did not make note of the edit!!!
I will punish myself severely: No Twinkies for the next twenty four hours.
poor spelling
Indeed, as have I. It's a little elitist to accuse people of misspelling proper names, particularly when both "Karen" and "Karin" are Scandinavian variants of the original Greek "Aikaterine", which some of us may have seen in other forms as well, just as the original Greek name of the first Evangelist has taken a number of variations.
