I just posted this to TechRhet, so I thought I ought to make it available here as well. TechRhet is discussing DesktopCray, a vaporware product which will turn your MAC into a supercomputer.
But a better hoax is MAVAV. The author has well-played public perceptions about the damages that video gaming has caused our society to produce a professional-looking extermely misleading site (at least for the naive). It's also fun to take a look at the slashdotters' analyses.
Almost equally interesting is that this was the result of an assignment for the Parsons School of Design. I've read around in their site and looks like the kind of place I would like to go to study technology and design :)

Re: Mothers Against Videogame Addiction and Violence (MAVAV)
These are both hilarious sites, but I have to disagree with you--DesktopCray is funnier than MAVAV. I think the online forum puts it over the top. Another great, subtle satire site is Black People Love Us.
Re: Mothers Against Videogame Addiction and Violence (MAVAV)
you're right. it's funnier :)
i was thinking more along the line of the subject matter of MAVAV--thinking about the social implications of video gaming is more useful to this list. MAVAV is also more controversial.
Re: More useful to this list
I don't know what's more useful... the cray site covers rhetoric and technology, but MAVAV arguably covers rhetoric, technology, and pedagogy. MAVAV strikes me as more a popular culture sort of site, where the cray site is more a tech culture site. Both of them hit pretty close to home for me as a parent and self-proclaimed applephile. I'd say they're both pretty relevant--but as an amateur satirist myself, I'm more than a little biased!
