Nanotechnology update - 'electro-spinning'

It's clear from this article that nanotechnology will affect our bodies and environments in substantial ways in the near future. The scientists interviewed here describe their work in electro-spinning as "on the edge of biology and technology," trying to "mimic Mother Nature." Considering the oft repeated claim that we have become increasingly visual, is there a sense in which such technology will fall 'below our radar' becasue it is, for the most part, invisible?
