The other day, a student emailed me a file, explaining that it was in .doc format, but since he uses OpenOffice, there was a possibility that the formatting would be off a little. I wrote back, enthusiastically saying I use only OpenOffice too. He wrote back this morning to ask if I'd seen their new education logo ("mascot"):
and pointed out that the "OK" sign it's making (which is supposed to be part of the "O" theme carried throughout the image) is offensive in some parts of the world. They'd had a contest, and this was the winner.
