new site: peer proofreading exchange

I would like to introduce a new site web dedicated to improving the quality of writing, the Peer Proofreading Exchange. Briefly, the idea is that you are obliged to proofread as many words as you ask other people to proofread. The exchange keeps track of the score and also attempts to match peers with respect to writing skill. (It is not reasonable to expected a 6th grader to proofread college level writing and perhaps visa versa.) Each participant is rated on a coarse scale for writing and proofreading ability by other participants. Peers are matched on the basis of composite ability scores.

Please check it out and let me know if you would find it useful or have any other comments.

proofreading or editing?

The sample makes it look more like an editing service, though a peer-to-peer editing service. When I think of proofreading, I think of spelling, punctuation, and general grammatical and mechanical usage concerns. Even given that, I'm not sure of the benefit of using it. Are responders just going to wander by and give people surface level corrections with the hope of reciprocity down the road?

proper name and quality system

Then perhaps "editing" is a more accurate term. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, but the site includes a quality rating system to encourage thoughtful reviews. A reviewer who consistently gives thorough reviews will be matched with other good reviewers. Some of the details of how this works is written up in the FAQ. The source code is also available as well so, in principle, it is possible to verify that the system is as fair as I claim it is.
