SWCA Achievement Award Call for Nominations

The SWCA Awards Committee is pleased to announce the 2006 Achievement Award. The SWCA Achievement Award is presented annually on a competitive basis to a writing center director (or other leadership or supervisory position) at an educational institution in the Southeastern region for his or her outstanding service to the SWCA. Research and service contributions to the nominee's writing center and the writing center community will also be considered. The winner will be recognized with a plaque and a check for $250 at the SWCA conference in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, February 16-18, 2006.

Eligibility: Any writing center administrator currently employed by an educational institution (including high schools, two-year colleges, and four-year colleges/universities) in a state or province located in the SWCA region (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands) is eligible to receive the award. Nominees should be current members (either student, individual, or institutional) of the SWCA.

Nominations: Writing center directors, administrators, staff members, and tutors, as well as institutional colleagues, may nominate an eligible candidate for the Achievement Award. Self-nominations are also accepted. Please forward the name, institution, address, phone, and email of the nominee to Dr. Shevaun Watson, Awards Committee Chair, by November 1, 2005 at swatson@gwm.sc.edu.

Application Process for Nominees: Anyone who accepts nomination and would like to be considered for the Achievement Award must submit an application packet by midnight December 1, 2005 that includes the materials listed below. Only email submissions with attachments in Word will be accepted.
· A cover letter indicating acceptance of nomination and description of one’s relevant contributions to his or her writing center, SWCA, and/or the writing center community;
· At least three letters of support from students, tutors, administrators, staff members, colleagues, or faculty;
· A curriculum vitae.

Optional materials to include (totaling no more than 40 pages):
· conference materials and publications relevant to writing center practice and research.
· materials illustrating involvement in and contributions to the SWCA.
· writing center materials developed by the nominated candidate, including but not limited to instructional resources and advertising materials.
· websites and online resources created by the nominated candidate.
