Office on Linux

InfoWorld reports that IBM is working on porting MS Office to Linux. Now it's possible that IBM is just working with Code Weavers (based on WINE), which creates an emulation layer between Linux and MS Office to make it think that it's running on Windows. As I understand it, Code Weavers is already successfully running some MS Office apps on Linux. But regardless of the method, I would point out that this is extra evidence that Linus is right about this being the year of the desktop for Linux.

Meanwhile, I'm sure someone at Sun Microsystems will be fuming at this comment from Stefan Pettersson of IBM about Open Office:

"It suits us fine the Microsoft and Sun fight about office application suites. We stay away from that. The reason we don't collaborate with Sun is that they're too small," said Pettersson.
