Re: Phoenix
My impression from both trying it, and the information on the site, is that phoenix may not yet be close enough to a production release for most people to use.
a lot like Chimera?
My understanding is that Phoenix is a lot like Chimera for the Mac. I used Chimera for a couple of months (until Safari came out), and found it to be very nimble--had just the functionality I needed, without unnecessary bulk.

Re: a lot like Chimera?
See, I had understood that Chimera was more about providing a browser that uses Cocoa so that it has the look and feel of the Mac.
On the other hand, I know that Phoenix is about making a minimalist, fast, efficient browser for multi platforms. It's a cut down, revised version of Mozilla.
on Linux
I've used Phoenix on Linux, and for me it wasn't noticeably faster than Galeon, and a lot less stable. So I continue to use (and be quite happy with) Galeon.
No browser fixes the problem of sucky Flash and Java, though.
cbd.
Re: a lot like Chimera?
Well, Chimera is also a cut down, revised, version of Mozilla, and one of the justifications for Chimera is that there's no Phoenix for the Mac. But I think you're right in that it's a completely separate development team.
Re: on Linux
I used Phoenix for awhile. Good stuff.
Re: a lot like Chimera?
so is safari more stable than chimera, is that the reason that you switched?
Re: a lot like Chimera?
Actually, the main reason I switched is that Safari renders text better on my laptop. Much easier on the eyes--somehow Chimera's text always looks a little grey and fuzzy. Also Safari does better with shockwave/flash. Safari's bookmarking is also more elegant than Chimera. But Safari does choke on a few Web sites, particularly those with secure forms, so I keep Chimera around for that.
