Looks like our friends over at Ludology.org have put together a "newsgame" called Madrid. In case you're not familiar with newsgaming, the idea is to create videogames with political content. Newsgame players are exposed to political rhetoric as they play. Their first game was called September 12th, which demonstrated how anti-terrorism efforts actually result in creating more terrorists. In Madrid, the idea is to light up enough candles to properly mourn the victims of the recent terrorist activity there.
These are rhetorical videogames that, while definitely not much fun to play, do succeed in making a simple point. As much as I'd like to support these guys and what they do, I still maintain that a videogame has to be, at some level, anyway, actually fun to play. This hit-you-over-the-head moralizing stuff just doesn't do it for me. But, anyway...
