Using pencil like devices called "phantoms," scientists in London and Britain will send physical sensations across the Internet, creating the first Internet sensation of touch (see the CNN story).

While certainly in its infancy, this research has the potential to change online relationships. Imagine using a webcam for communication, but being able to virtually shake hands online. Touch is a powerful stimulus for human contact.
