Students forced to carry RFIDs

EFF has released a PSA concerning a California public school that is now requiring all students to carry RFID-enabled student ID cards. Some parents are concerned the cards, which are used to track students on campus and contains plenty of private information, may be exploited by predators. The cards also can be considered demeaning, treating students with all the respect given to cattle. The ACLU has gotten involved and will hopefully make a difference:

RFID technology is inappropriate for use in schools. The badges jeopardize the safety and security of children by broadcasting identity and location information to anyone with a chip reader and subjects students to demeaning tracking of their movements.

I suppose there is a flip side to all this, but I know I wouldn't want some high school principle tracking my movements around campus. How the heck can you play hookey when the klingons have tracking devices??
