Call for Papers: SIGDOC 2007
The 25th ACM International Conference on Design of Communication will be held in El Paso, TX on Oct. 22-24, 2007. Participants are encouraged to submit research papers, workshop proposals, and experience reports concerning processes, methods, and technologies for communicating and designing communication artifacts such as printed documents, online text, and hypermedia applications.
At SIGDOC 2007, researchers and practitioners will exchange information in areas relevant to the design of communication:
* Multidisciplinary approaches to information design and information architecture
* Participatory and user-centered design: methods, methodologies, and approaches
* Processes for developing information, including documentation
* Agile documentation processes for information design
* Genre and discourse analyses of information design and delivery
* Personalized information systems, time management systems, and project management systems: design, development, and impact
Submission Process
SIGDOC 2007 will include technical papers, participatory workshops, and experience reports. Authors should submit complete drafts of technical papers and experience reports for review by the program committee.
Guidelines for PapersResearch papers should not exceed 5,000 words, approximately 8 pages in ACM SIGDOC conference format (available at www.sigdoc2007.org), including figures and references. The results described must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Guidelines for WorkshopsWorkshop proposals should not exceed 1,000 words. The proposal should describe the workshop's theme, leader(s), structure, expected length, and participant selection criteria.
Guidelines for Experience ReportsExperience reports should not exceed 3,500 words. The experience report is a standalone, six-page extended abstract that describes a design experience and its lessons for other designers of communication. The experience report must include the title, names and affiliations of the authors, an abstract of up to 150 words, and keywords.
To submit a paper, experience report, or workshop proposal for review, e-mail Clay Spinuzzi clay.spinuzzi@mail.utexas.edu with an attached file. The submission deadline is June 1, 2007.
Authors will be notified of acceptance by August 1, 2007. Final versions of technical papers and workshop descriptions are due by September 1, 2007. Acceptance for publication is contingent on registration for the conference. (In the case of multiple authors, at least one must register.) If you cannot attend the conference, a publication fee equivalent to the event registration will be charged.
Conference Location
The conference will be held at the Tomas Rivera Conference Center, on the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso. Hotel accommodations will be at the new Hilton Garden Inn, which is immediately adjacent to the conference center. El Paso, the "Sun City," has late-October high temperatures in the high 70's.
