The Department of Writing and Linguistics at Georgia Southern University (http://class.georgiasouthern.edu/writling/) seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor with Ph. D. with a specialization in technical and professional writing, scientific and technical communication, rhetoric and composition, or related field. Ph. D. required by starting date of position, Aug. 1, 2005. Dissertation in field, evidence of excellent teaching, a minimum of two years of college teaching, and teaching experience in computer classroom environments are required. Salary dependent upon qualifications.
The successful candidate must have demonstrated expertise in one or more of these areas: visual rhetoric, computers and writing, rhetoric and technical communication, distance education, multimedia authoring, software documentation, computational linguistics, internship programs, writing in the disciplines, technical editing, grant writing. Preference may be given to candidates with experience working with diverse student populations and experience teaching first-year composition. Teaching responsibilities include courses within Professional and Technical Writing as part of the BA in Writing and Linguistics as well as courses for the second discipline in Technical Writing in conjunction with the School of Information Technology. We seek candidates whose expertise and interests complement a department with degree concentrations in creative writing, linguistics, technical and professional writing, and writing and culture. Pre-screening of applicants may occur at the Modern Language Association Conference in Philadelphia, on Dec. 27-30, 2004.
