The Complete Guide to Googlemania

The March 2004 issue of Wired Magazine is kicking off the future IPO of Google with an extended feature bound to interest the Google enthusiast in all of us. For instance, I personally enjoyed Michael Chabon's description of Google as the writer's procrastination tool:

Writers of the past had absinthe, whiskey, or heroin. I have Google. I go there intending to stay five minutes and next thing I know, seven hours have passed, I've written 43 words, and all I have to show for it is that I know the titles of every episode of The Nanny and the Professor. (from Googlemaniacs)

Hmmm...I've got lots of useless Googlized trivia in my head. Anybody else? :)

Fun Stuff

Yes, I can certainly relate to this writer. What always gets me is the inevitable interesting-looking but obviously non-related link that shows up when I search for something else. Plus, I always feel compelled to do an ego-search for awhile and try to see if anyone is talking about me anywhere on the net. Sadly, I don't seem to be a frequent subject of conversation! :-)

However, I finally result to the gated web at the library to get any real research done. It gets weary drifting through the inevitable commercial sites masquerading as a Derrida page.
