Despite the recent popularity of USB flash drives, don't rule out hard drives making a comeback as portable storage mediums. Elecom will soon be releasing a USB Hard Drive that is only 2.6". Seagate also announced that their new 12 GB 1" hard drive "is 23% smaller than Seagate's current 1-inch drive [and] packs in 50% more storage capacity with 30% less power consumption." Now if they would just build one of these things into my mobile phone with a built in retractable USB cable, I'd be all set.

Isn't that what the iPod is
Isn't that what the iPod is for? I use mine to back up the Powerbook, especially now that I've lost stuff.

who wants an ipod?
Who wants to carry an iPod and a phone when they could do both? :)
Besides, the newest generation, the video iPods, have a lot of problems with Windows. Apple support told my brother (who has since returned the iPod) that he would have turn off all other processes on his laptop before the USB connection would work correctly with iTunes. LOL
