I don't know much about "Title IX," but apparently it has to do with gender equity in education, but specifically sports. This article points out ways it has helped the state of women in academia, but also points out some depressing statistics about the status of women in the sciences, particularly at MIT. Hey, it's great that they're making knowledge public and all, but would it kill them to make a woman a department head in the sciences?
To less attention, Title IX impacts much of academic life

Re: To less attention, Title IX impacts much of academic life
I know in Florida there were debates because several schools, because of insufficient funding, dropped men's sports programs rather than adding women's programs. Even today there is a push to get cheerleading recognized as a sport by the FHSAA (Florida High Schools Activities Association), but the efforts seem in part to be geared toward making what schools do now look more balanced rather than promoting further change.
