Webcasters Close In on Royalties Agreement
In recent months, there has been intense discussion about the future of radio broadcasting through the web. At the core is, of course, the question of royalties. Again, as in the Napster case, the Recording Insdustry Association of America is leading the effort to get the stations to pay more. Forcing radiostations to pay royalties for webcasting can shut donw many of the smaller stations, especially the publicly-funded ones.
LA Times reports that webcasters are close to reaching a royalty agreement with the record labels.
