In reading about various blog software, one of the common questions I see people post about is blogging by email support. Zacker's AIM Comments for Drupal represents what may be a new trend in using IM as the means to post to weblogs, and one that I could see as being popular among the younger crowd of Internet users who have grown up with IM:
You can hold threaded dialogues on my site entirely via IM. Here is how it works
- You leave a comment on my site
- The owner of the post you commented on is sent an IM with your comment
- Through IM the poster can reply to your comment
- You are then notified that the poster replied to your comment (via IM) and can reply back in return
Zacker notes that he's also working on making this work for SMS text messaging. Could this be a new trend in connectivity and interaction with blogs? I think so, given, as Zacker has said, "I think it viscerally makes comment threads feel more like “real” conversations."
So kudos to Zacker, for I will be looking forward to seeing this as a stable Drupal module. This would be great for synchronous communication via a Drupal site in the classroom :)

Here's a different take on a similar concept:

gotta like the license and cross browser support
i'll have to give this a try later on. always interested in cross os apps that have decent licensing. i've been using gaim, but this could be a good replacement with the pim and news reader elements.
