This National Council for Education Statistics report (pdf) has extensive statistics on technology implementation in public schools. The abstract follows:

This report presents data on Internet access in U.S. public schools from 1994 to 2002 by school characteristics. It provides trend analysis on the progress of public schools and classrooms in connecting to the Internet and on the ratio of students to instructional computers with Internet access. For the year 2002, this report also presents data on the types of Internet connections used; student access to the Internet outside of regular school hours; laptop computer loans; hand-held computers for students and teachers; and school Web sites. It also contains information on computer hardware, software, and Internet support and Web site support at the school; teacher professional development on how to integrate the use of the Internet into the curriculum; and technologies and procedures to prevent student access to inappropriate material on the Internet.

Pedagogical scenarios with portals (draft chapter)

I wrote a draft for a book chapter intitled "Conception and
implementation of rich pedagogical scenarios through collaborative portals sites". I'd very much appreciate some comments either here or a tecfaseed :)

Students Returning to Schools Committed to Technology

A very fair article in the NYTimes about the use of technology in writing classes. The article (quoting people such as David Bloome, president of NCTE) puts in a good word for revision, peer review, audience-centered writing, and less teacher-centered classrooms, all of which, it suggests, can be furthered through the introduction of technology. It even mentions wikis and blogs. :)

Why Students Should Play Videogames

This article from the peer-reviewed internet journal First Monday explains why videogames shouldn't be distractions from homework--they should be homework. Begona Gros has really made some good points in this article that I hope will resonate through the academy, or at least through the computers & writing part of it!
